The Fog of War

This is an amazing film that opens the door into what was really going on when the Kennedy Administration handled the Cuban Missile Crisis as well as how Vietnam policy dramatically changed once Kennedy was no longer in office. Robert McNamara gives us 11 lessons that America needs to learn so that we don't make the same mistakes twice.

THE YES MEN

A comedic documentary which follows The Yes Men, a small group of prankster activists, as they gain world-wide notoriety for impersonating the World Trade Organization on television and at business conferences around the world. The film begins when two members of The Yes Men, Andy and Mike, set up a website that mimics the World Trade Organization's--and it's mistaken for the real thing. They play along with the ruse and soon find themselves invited to important functions as WTO representatives. Delighted to represent the organization they politically oppose, Andy and Mike don thrift-store suits and set out to shock unwitting audiences with darkly comic satire that highlights the worst aspects of global free trade.

Brian Springer – Spin

Using the 1992 presidential election as his springboard, documentary filmmaker Brian Springer captures the behind-the-scenes manoeuvrings of politicians and newscasters in the early 1990s. Pat Robertson banters about "homos," Al Gore learns how to avoid abortion questions, George Bush talks to Larry King about halcyon -- all presuming they're off camera. Composed of 100% unauthorized satellite footage, Spin is a surreal expose of media-constructed reality.

Plan Colombia

What was the point of Plan Colombia? Is the U.S. government still concerned with fighting drugs? Why have 20 years of drug wars in the Andes resulted in a two-fold increase in cocaine imported into the U.S. in the last ten years alone? Could there be alternate purposes to a plan focused on beefing up the brutal Colombia military and spraying coca fields in rebel-held parts of the country when coca is grown all over Colombia? And what about oil, given that Colombia has the same oil potential as Venezuela, currently the second largest oil supplier to the U.S.? The award-winning Free Will Productions team sheds light on the complex issues of drug-trafficking and civil struggle in Colombia and the impact of both the current chemical-spray program and the multibillion dollar aid package delivered to the military. Analysis and interviews with Noam Chomsky, the late Senator Paul Wellstone, Colombian Presidential candidate Ingrid Betancourt (later taken hostage by the FARC), U.S. Members Of Congress John Conyers and Jim McGovern, U.S. State Department officials, a World Wildlife Fund scientist, as well as Colombians from all walks of life, including guerilla leaders.

Spying on the Home Front

'So many people in America think this does not affect them. They've been convinced that these programs are only targeted at suspected terrorists. … I think that's wrong. … Our programs are not perfect, and it is inevitable that totally innocent Americans are going to be affected by these programs,' former CIA Assistant General Counsel Suzanne Spaulding tells FRONTLINE correspondent Hedrick Smith in “Spying on the Home Front.”

"Spying on the Home Front" also looks at a massive FBI data sweep in December 2003. On a tip that Al Qaeda "might have an interest in Las Vegas" around New Year's 2004, the FBI demanded records from all hotels, airlines, rental car agencies, casinos and other businesses on every person who visited Las Vegas in the run-up to the holiday. Stephen Sprouse and Kristin Douglas of Kansas City, Mo., object to being caught in the FBI dragnet in Las Vegas just because they happened to get married there at the wrong moment. Says Douglas, 'I'm sure that the government does a lot of things that I don't know about, and I've always been OK with that -- until I found out that I was included.'
